Where Is the Reset Button on My Air Conditioning Unit?

You might have to reset your AC after a power outage or in case of a minor malfunction. The good news is that the process is relatively simple.

Some air conditioners feature a reset button; it’s usually located along the outdoor unit’s bottom edge or on the power supply cord if you have a window AC. The units that don’t have a special button can be reset at the circuit breaker.

Where Is the Reset Button on the Air-Conditioning Unit Located?

The air conditioners that feature a reset button usually have it on the outside unit. Look for the button along the bottom edge; it should typically be red, so if your unit has a reset button locating it shouldn’t be too challenging.

Some reset buttons can be located inside the outdoor unit, behind the service panel. In such a case, make sure to cut off the power to the system before beginning your search.

The best way to find the reset button on your particular unit is by consulting the owner’s manual.

Air conditioners that don’t have a designated reset button can be rebooted from the thermostat or at the circuit breaker.
